GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, JUNE 29, 2020 - Firmenich, the world’s largest privately-owned perfume and taste company, is proud to announce EcoIngredient Compass, a new proprietary tool that offers customers an immediate assessment of The Group’s fragrance molecules through the lens of green chemistry. Increasing transparency to drive sustainable creation, EcoIngredient Compass provides unique insights into the renewability, biodegradability and green chemistry properties of Firmenich’s iconic perfumery ingredients.

“Driven by the growing trend for more sustainable lifestyles, consumers are demanding to know what is inside their product,” said Julien Firmenich, VP Product Strategy and Promotion. “EcoIngredient Compass is a breakthrough in ingredients transparency, as it gives our customers the sustainability information that they need to shape products that have a lasting positive impact.”

For more than 20 years, Firmenich has applied green chemistry principles throughout its research processes. Green Chemistry is designed to maximize efficiency and minimize hazardous effects on human health and the environment. The EcoIngredient Compass analyzes and scores an ingredient in the following three areas: Renewable Carbon; Biodegradability and Green Chemistry.

Firmenich is including these three parameters in its Ingredients sales catalogue for all of its fragrance molecules.

Firmenich’s unique and high-performing molecules cover all olfactive families and have long inspired the company’s creators and contributed to the success of its customers. With the creation of EcoIngredient Compass that focuses on sustainability and transparency, the Group is reinforcing its leadership in white biotechnology and green chemistry – the development and production of ingredients with minimal impact on nature and people.
