When not in the office, Scott can typically be found out in nature—either on a mountain bike, skis or in his kayak—and usually with his family in tow.

My favorite part of venture investing is the opportunity to see so many unique technologies being applied by startups across such a diversity of challenges—it is truly a rewarding experience to see both the positive impact these companies have on consumers/society and their ability to drive meaningful investment returns.

Biography

Before joining dsm-firmenich, Scott was a Managing Director at Middleland Capital in Washington D.C. where he built and managed a portfolio of technology investments across the life sciences sector, including functional ingredients, therapeutics, agriculture, diagnostics, and animal health.  Prior to Middleland, he was a Managing Director with Third Security, a private equity firm focusing on biotechnology and pharmaceutical opportunities, where he both led direct investments and took interim operating roles within portfolio companies.  Over his career, Scott’s 20+ portfolio companies have raised well over $2B USD and realized multiple public and private exits.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the State University of New York, and a Ph. D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from The University of Rochester, School of Medicine.
